In one paragraph: Arunachal Talk is a free, non-commercial community project. We store your email only so you
can sign in, and it is never shown to anyone or sold. The words, sentences and recordings you contribute are
published publicly for everyone to learn from, under a licence that keeps them free forever. You can ask us to
delete your account or your recordings at any time. Nobody makes money from this.
ποΈ Who owns the words
The languages in this app belong to the communities that speak them β not to this app, and not to its maintainer.
Arunachal Talk is a caretaker, not an owner.
Contributions are published under a Creative Commons AttributionβShareAlike (CC BY-SA 4.0) licence: anyone
may use, copy, teach from or build on the collection, must credit the community and this project, and must keep
what they make equally free. Nobody can lock these words inside a paid product.
Any community body, tribal union, school, university or researcher may request a full copy of the data for
their language, free of charge.
If a community organisation formally asks for material relating to their language to be removed or corrected,
we will act on it.
Some words and sentences are considered sacred, restricted, or reserved for ritual use in certain communities.
Please do not submit these. If restricted material is submitted, tell us and it will be removed.
π Privacy Policy
What we collect
Your email address β only to send sign-in codes and identify your account. It is never displayed to
other users, never sold, and never used for marketing.
Your display name β chosen by you, shown publicly next to your contributions. Use any name you like;
you do not have to use your real name.
Your contributions β words, sentences, district/village tags, and audio recordings. These are public by design.
Votes and likes β stored against your account so you cannot vote twice.
Feedback messages β visible only to the maintainer.
We do not use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, and we do not collect your location, contacts or device data.
Where it is stored
Data is stored with Supabase (database and audio storage) and the site is hosted by Netlify. Sign-in emails are
sent through an email service provider. These providers process data on our behalf under their own security terms.
Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you may ask us to show you the personal data we hold
about you, correct it, delete it, or withdraw your consent. Write to the contact address below and we will act within
a reasonable period. You can delete suggestions still being voted on yourself, from your Profile tab.
If you withdraw consent, we will delete your account, your email and your recordings. Text entries already accepted
into the public phrasebook by community vote may remain, without your name attached, because they have become part
of a shared community record β tell us if you want yours removed as well and we will remove them.
Age
You must be 18 or older to create an account and contribute. Anyone may read, listen and take quizzes without
an account. If you are under 18 and would like to contribute, please do so together with a parent, guardian or teacher
using their account. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will delete it.
Recordings of other people
If you record another person's voice β an elder, a relative, a neighbour β you must explain to them first that the
recording will be published publicly and freely reusable, and you must have their permission. Anyone whose voice
appears in the app may write to us to have their recording removed.
π Terms of Use
Arunachal Talk is provided free of charge, "as is", with no guarantee of accuracy or availability. It is a
community record, not an authoritative dictionary β always defer to fluent speakers and elders.
By contributing, you confirm the material is yours to share, that you have permission from anyone whose voice
you recorded, and you licence it under CC BY-SA 4.0 as described above.
Do not submit anything false, invented, abusive, obscene, defamatory, sacred/restricted, or copied from a
copyrighted dictionary or book. Do not submit anyone's personal information.
Dialect differences are not errors. Downvote only what is wrong, invented, or spam β never a variant simply
because your village says it differently.
We may remove content or accounts that break these terms, and we may change these terms; material changes will
be noted on this page.
These terms are governed by the laws of India, with jurisdiction in Arunachal Pradesh.
π Credits & sources
A small number of starter entries were compiled from publicly available reference material to give the app a
beginning, and are being progressively replaced by community contributions. With thanks to:
Omniglot β numbers in Apatani and other Tani languages (compiled by Wolfgang Kuhl)
Polyglot Club β greetings in Nyishi and Galo
Community contributors on public forums and blogs
Above all, the speakers who contribute their words and voices to this app
If you are the author of any source material and would like an entry credited differently or removed, please write
to us and we will do so promptly.
